Trabocco Loc. Casarsa, Vasto

There is a stretch of the Abruzzo coast that goes from Ortona down to San Salvo, shortly after Vasto, known as "costa dei trabocchi", the typical fishing stations born about two centuries ago to allow farmers and shepherds to remedy with fish.

engineering masterpieces made entirely of wood, anchored to rock spurs and prostheses on water, which work with complex systems of levers and tie rods: these are Trabocchi.

The view of the see from the trabocco is stunning, you fell part of the waves and it leaves you speechless. You must only listen to the sound of the see and let yourself be carried away by a dream.

VASTO

The Adriatic See seen from the highest part of the village of Vasto. Called Histonium in Latin and Histónion in ancient Greek, it originated in the 12th century BC in which the first Greek, Illyrian and Frentana populations settled in what would later become in 91 BC the Roman Municipality of Histonium, an important fishing village and port of the Adriatic until its destruction by the Lombards in the Middle Ages. Rebuilt as a stronghold during the Lordship of the Caldora, it was reborn in the Aragonese period with the D'Avalos family, raising the center to the rank of City in 1710 by concession of Philip V of Spain and knowing a period of political, socio-economic and cultural growth with the proclamation of the Vastese Republic and the continuous artistic and literary production for which from the XIX century it was known as "Athens of the Abruzzi". It is currently the 2nd municipality in the province by population, the common leader of the Costa dei Trabocchi and of the Vastese district.

Ortona
San Tommaso , patron saint of Ortona, while he is leaving for the traditional procession at sea, a fisherman looks into his eyes as if he were speaking to him, asking him to bless him for the new year of fishing
